How We Work
Westboro International Academy has a strong academic focus in a rigorous academic environment. We encourage our students to give their best efforts in a supportive and nurturing environment. We foster a learning context where students are recognized for their progress, work ethic, and dedication. Students are taught to be critical thinkers and problem solvers who can collaborate with others and work towards a common goal. At Westboro International Academy, we believe that applying the knowledge you acquire is just as important as acquiring it. We teach our students to communicate their ideas confidently, listen to others, consider their point of view, and make their voices heard. We build a strong community that fosters a culture of learning and that celebrates differences. Learning in an environment where failure is embraced as part of the process leads to success for everyone!
The Bilingual Advantage
By learning in both official languages, our graduates gain invaluable skills and advantages that extend far beyond the classroom. They are able to:
- Excel in cognitive abilities: Bilingualism enhances brain function, enabling graduates to outperform monolinguals in areas such as problem-solving, creative thinking, and multitasking.
- Develop cultural awareness: Exposure to multiple languages fosters a deeper appreciation and understanding of diverse cultures, promoting empathy and global citizenship.
- Build meaningful connections: Equipped with the ability to communicate in both official languages, our graduates can interact confidently with individuals from various backgrounds, enriching their personal and professional relationships.
- Navigate the world with ease: Whether for travel, work, or study, bilingualism opens doors and makes it easier to adapt and thrive in different countries and environments.
At Westboro International Academy, we prepare our students to embrace the opportunities of a multilingual, interconnected world, empowering them to succeed in an increasingly global society.
Why Choose French?
French holds a unique place in Canada, standing alongside English as one of our official languages. Beyond our borders, French is the official working language of prominent international organizations such as the United Nations and NATO.
With over 235 million French speakers across the globe, French is undeniably a significant and widely spoken world language. It is one of the rare languages spoken on all five continents, offering learners a gateway to global opportunities and a deeper connection to diverse cultures.
At Westboro International Academy, we empower students with the ability to communicate in French, preparing them for success in a bilingual Canada and an interconnected world.
Use of Technology
Technology is a valuable learning tool for students to use in age-appropriate ways. Westboro International Academy uses Macs and PCs in our school to ensure our students have a working knowledge of both. For our lower (Grades JK-4) we have travelling carts of iPads and MacBook Air laptops for student use. Students may use these devices with teacher supervision only and for educational purposes only. Our students in Grades 5-8 are required to have their own Chromebook for schoolwork. Every classroom has projection capabilities for sharing and learning through visual means. Each Westboro International Academy child has an email account that is monitored and managed by the school, and this account hosts important features like Google Classroom as a communication feature between home and school. Starting in grade 5, students learn how to use shared documents and occasionally submit their work online.
We know that familiarity and ease with technology will be essential as students grow older, but we also place a strong emphasis on the value of writing, sharing, researching, and learning through a wide variety of other means.
