Westboro Community

Being community-focused is a key aspect of our school mission and we work hard to ensure a vibrant and cohesive community.

Who We Are

Westboro International Academy is a small and familial community. We are a very close and tightly knit group with a maximum student enrolment of 176 and only one class per grade. The older and younger children often play together and everybody is known to one another. Our dedicated staff and faculty know every student by name, valuing each one as a unique individual with their own voice. At Westboro International Academy, we not only value what our students have to say, but we encourage them to speak up and to bring their ideas forward!

Our small class sizes foster an integrated environment where meaningful relationships flourish, and everyone grows to truly know and understand one another. This strong sense of community is a cornerstone of what sets Westboro International Academy apart from other schools. With teachers and administrators readily accessible, every family becomes well-known and valued. Families choose Westboro International Academy because our size allows us to prioritize and nurture these connections. There is a strong sense of belonging, and having a community means that Westboro students learn in a caring, supportive, and nurturing environment.

School Houses

Westboro International Academy students are assigned to one of four School Houses: Blue Jays, Cardinals, Orioles or Green Herons. Students across the grade levels, staff, and faculty connect to bond in these smaller communities and participate in friendly competition throughout the year to earn house points. Acts of kindness, consideration for others, respectful behaviours, dedicated efforts, thinking outside oneself, perseverance and community-mindedness, are examples of how a student might be recognized on behalf of their house.
House points are calculated every month by the house captains, and the winning house each month earns a casual day (winners are encouraged to show their house pride and wear their house colour that day). At the end of each academic year, the house that earned the most points overall that year is awarded the coveted Westboro International Academy House Cup.

Community Service

Westboro International Academy helps prepare students for life by reinforcing the expectation of serving others. Our students learn from an early age that they are part of a much wider community where people share resources, ideas, time, and energy. Our Student Council organizes many community service projects and supervises charity fundraising events. Through these activities, our students experience the benefits of giving. Under the guidance of staff and faculty, our students organize food drives, pop-corn sales, participate in the Annual Terry Fox Run, and others that all contribute to this experience. Students are always encouraged to come forward with their ideas on how to serve others and help them find ways to implement these ideas so that they become a reality.

Parent Engagement

Many of our parents play an active role in school life. Opportunities to get involved include serving on the Board of Directors, or participating in various volunteer activities such as judging science or heritage fairs, supervising field trips, decorating for events, and much more. For those interested, there are countless ways to contribute to the school community. We deeply value parental involvement, as it not only supports our operations but also strengthens the sense of community that defines our school.

International Week

Each year, in the Spring, the school community engages in a week-long festival and celebration of international explorations. We celebrate diversity and learn about music, food, religions, geography, politics and culture. It is a prosperous time for learning, and the culminating event is a spectacular potluck of international foods in which the entire school community and parents are invited to participate.

Student Presentations

Students will share what they have been learning with our community of parents several times a year. Examples of this include our yearly International Day, Heritage Fair and Science Fair. Students are always proud to share their artistic learnings through the holiday and year-end show of musical and theatrical performances. These events also provide an opportunity to gather community members and build relationships.
